7 Run First Inning Enough for Combs

Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia Phillies took their 2 of 3 from the Chicago Cubs as their opening series came to a close on Thursday afternoon. The Phillies batted around in the first putting 7 runs across the plate. Carmelo Martinez hit his third home run of the season, Tommy Herr went 4-5, and Lenny Dykstra stole two bases.
Rookie starting pitcher Pat Combs went the distance giving up 6 hits and striking out 9, as the Phillies pulled out the 11-2 victory.
The Phillies continue their 6 game home stand against the Montreal Expos this weekend.
