Blue Jays shortstop Tony Fernandez; attended by trainer Tommy Craig grimaces with pain after being upended by Bill Madlock of the Tigers at second base -- and with good reason. X-rays showed Fernandez had a broken right elbow; sustained when he came down hard on a seam dividing the dirt from the turf; and he's gone for the season with a broken elbow.

Toronto shortstop Tony Fernandez walks off the field holding his elbow that was fractured against the Tigers. His loss; particularly on offence; has hurt the Blue Jays greatly.
The slide was pretty bad, but Madlock had nothing to do with the decision to install artificial turf at your stadium. Wonder how many players lost years off their careers playing on that crap. Oh and the inability to touch the great Frank Tanana was the main reason Toronto didn't make the post season. As for y'all making the World Series, sorry but no one and I mean no one was going to deny the great Juan Berenguer in 1987.
