Bill Whitby
passed away over the weekend (March 12). He was 72. Bill spent most of his career in the farm system of the Twins, for whom he appeared in 4 games in 1964. Oddly, his only Topps appearance came on a split rookie card in 1967. He pitched for the Charlotte Hornets in 1963 and 1964 where he met Donelle, his wife of 50 years. She just happened to be "Miss Hornet" of 1964. Bill spent quite a few years with the Denver farm club and Getty has plenty of images of him with the Bears.
The portrait shot, here, is from Baseball-Birthdays. The other has been on my hard drive for quite a while and I'd forgotten where it came from. It kinda looked like a dr.jteee eBay image and, as it turned out, it was (it's still available, in fact).
