The main difference for historical stats tends to be defense. When we import stats, we won't necessarily import the same defensive runs saved that other sites like Fangraphs or Baseball Reference use, so player WAR values will shift slightly year over year. I think we end up importing them with a 0 as it would be too challenging to try to convert other defensive metrics to the ones we use internally, so positive defensive players like Bagwell will show a larger WAR dropoff in the game.

We also might apply slightly different variations for other modifiers like park effects or league run adjustments, so we won't be perfectly in line.
