Well, you can't retire guys according to history with RD historical, so it darn well better be. (It is: it caused Clayton Kershaw to absolutely crash and burn in one of my games, but then again Tillie Shafer [who?] made it to the HoF with 3,022 hits!) The reason for using both is the guys that have a limited amount of stats (think young, current players like Kershaw, or guys from yesteryear who didn't get that much MLB playing time like Shafer). Once they get beyond those, you want to have the player development system takeover rather than endlessly re-calcing their final season, which might result in them playing until age 65.
