Jackson edges Tunney to retain title
Two times heavyweight champion Peter Jackson 30-1-0 (21) socred a SD12 win against previously undefeated star Gene Tunney 28-0-0 (17). Jackson started better winning five of the first six rounds on the second half of the fight Tunney did it better but it wasn't enought to turn the fight on his favor. Tunney landed more punches (286-203) but Jackson landed the harder ones. The scorecards were 115-114 (x2) for Jackson with the other 115-114 for Tunney.
Sharkey outpoints Matthews
Tom Sharkey 31-2-1 (27) scored a UD10 win against Dick Matthews 26-5-0 (23). The fight was a very competitive and changing one and Sharkey secured his victory only when he won the last two rounds on all the cards. The scorecards were 96-94 (x2) and 97-93.
Jeffries defeats Fitzsimmons on a war
Former champion James Jeffries 31-3-0 (30) scored a hard fought UD10 win against Bob Fitzsimmons 29-4-0 (26). After six rounds of non stopping action the fight was close affair with a little edge for Jeffries that dropped Fitzsimmons on the first round. On the seventh round Fitzsimmons dropped Jeffries with an overhand right but Jeffries reacted and early on the eighth round he dropped Jeffries for the second time on the fight with a well timed uppercut. The ninth round was a close back and forth affaire and finally on the last round Jeffries punished Fitzsimmons to secure his victory. The scorecards were 95-92 (x2) and 96-92.
Choynski outpoints Slavin
Joe Choynski 24-5-1 (20) scored a UD10 win against Frank Slavin 24-7-0 (19). The fight was close for the first seven rounds until Choynski dropped Slavin on the eight round and took the control of the fight for good. The scorecards were 97-93, 96-93 and 97-92.
