1916 Review.
Peter Jackson stops Peter Coutney to win vacant HW Belt
#2 Peter Jackson 22-0-0 (17) scored a KO7 victory against #1 Peter Courtney 21-0-1 (19) to win the vacant heavyweight belt.
Jackson controlled the first three rounds but then Courtney attemeped a rally. On the seventh round a big right by Jackson dropped Courtney for the ten count. At the time of thes stoppage Jackson led by 58-56 on all tree cards.
Morris and McCarthy fight to a draw
The fight between Carl Morris 19-4-0 (16) and Luther McCarty 25-1-1 (22) ended on a draw. For six rounds the fight was good witrh great action. McCarty dropped Morris on the sixth round. The last four rounds were slow and without a clear dominator. The scorecards were 95-94 Mccarty, 96-93 Morris and 95-95.
Jeffries destroys Godfrey
KO artist James Jeffries 24-1-0 (23) scored a KO3 victory against George Godfrey 25-2-0 (23). The two hard-hitters went toe to toe on the first two rounds. On the third one Jeffries connected a big hook and dropped Godfrey for good.
Willis TKO´s Barry
Harry Willis 19-1-1 (19) scored a TKO5 win against Jim Barry 21-5-0 (20). Willis dominated the first three rounds also dropping Barry on the third one. Barry reacted a bit on the fourth one but Willis punished Barry until the stoppage on the fifth stanza.
Fitzsimmonds stops and dominates McVey
On a eliminatory fight for a title chance Bob Fitzsimmons 24-0-0 (22) scored a TKO8 win against Sam McVey 22-0-1 (19). Fitz dominated most of the fight and dropped Mcvey on the fifth round and three more times on the eighth one for the automatic TKO. At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 69-63 (x2) and 70-62 for Fitzsimmons.
Sharkey destroys Geyer
As it was expected Tom Sharkey 22-0-1 (21) scored an easy KO3 victory against Denver Jack Geyer 22-4-1 (16). After dominating the first two rounds Sharkey dropped Geyer for the ten count with a big barrage of punches.
