Transactions:
Signed Jorge Rosa to a 2-year contract to be the Bench Coach
Signed OF Ndungu Abdelsatta, MR Tom Weareorwear and OF Jason Kennedy to minor league contract.
Claimed OF Dave Lewis off of waivers from the Georgetown Sixteens
Wavied and DFA's C Jose Perez
Placed OF Dave Lewis on the active roster
Claimed 2B Manny Hernandez off of waivers from the Washington Senators
Reassigned C Jose Perez to AAA San Juan after he cleared waivers

Rosa is a perfect fit for this team with his smallball attitude and his love for stealing bases. Rumor has it he is being groomed to be the future manager, as he is an unproven commodity with no experience.

Lewis hit .206-20-55 in 136 games last season. He is an above average OF, who can also play 1B.

Hernandez will be up with the big club soon I am thinking. He has pretty decent stats, is an above average IF and can steal a base when needed. I have have had my eye on him for a while and I am glad he is with our organization now.

Injuries:
SP Yoshtoki Mori, Torn UCL (Tommy John Surgery), 3-4 weeks

Other/Roster News:
The big "firsts" in Cannons history:
Game 1, 3rd Inning - Jack Cavazos singled to right off of Gullermo Alfonso for the first hit in Cannons history.
Game 1, 5th Inning - Jack Cavazos singled to right, scoring Vincent Harrison for the first run in Cannons history.
Game 2, 3rd Inning - Vance Burns hit a first pitch fastball from Ben Sanford 435ft over the CF wall for the first HR in Cannons history.
Game 2 - Esteban Calamacho records first win
Game 2 - Dan Kessler records first save

GM Notes:
My thought was we would get runners on base, steal some, and manufacture some runs and I am hoping that is what we will be able to do... however this week we were only successful on 3 steals out of 8 attempts. Either these guys aren't as fast as I thought they were or we just faced some good catchers... speed is going to be a key to us getting runs so hopefully we can turn that around.

I am going to continue with the lineups the same for the up coming week, just get everyone some time to get used to the game. But we had a bad week hitting. With only one starter over .300 (Tony Inman .348) and the next closest down at .250. Something has to give, yes we are built on speed but we need base runners to utilize it.

Not much to say about our starting rotation. I think they did well for the first week, we really only had one "bad" game. I should go look for another starter and when Mori gets off the DL we could have a semi-legit starting 5. I will have to see whats out there... but the bottom of this rotation is ugly.

Its good to see that all the pitchers go into a game (except my #5 starter who will be this week). We will rely heavily on this bullpen and I do think they will be able to handle it.

I am pleased after 1 week of games. We aren't great, we aren't awful. I feel like we should be able compete this season and I'd like to get on a roll and win some games. It will be interesting in 2 weeks when we play Cape May one of the other expansion clubs.

So far so good.

News:
New Castle Colonials:
A player to watch this season is SP Pedro Rivera. At 38-years old Rivera is on the cusp of career strike-out 3000. Last season he struck out 130 in 180 innings, so he has a long road a head of him. If or when he reaches that 3000 mark he will make DBL history being the first pitcher to hit the 3000 mark... And he is six wins away from 200 to boot. This has the makings of a very historic season for Rivera.
Lewes Braves: Signed Marty Carr to a 1-year deal worth $1,500,000.
Norfolk Cavaliers: Signed MR Roger Gentry to a 1-year deal worth $3,680,000.
Dover Generals: MR Greg McAskill will miss 8-months worth a torn labrum.
Ocean City Tourists: Signed MR Jorge Jimenez to a 1-year deal worth $1,540,000.
New Castle Colonials: Will be without power-hitting OF Ryan Sutton for another 2-3 weeks after Sutton suffered a set-back during rehab.
Cape May Beacons: 1B Ramon Franco hit for the cycle going 4-6 with 4 RBI and 3 R's. The 29th cycle in DBL history.
