cutting player with a team option on contract?
Looked through online manual and didn't see an answer to my situation.
I have P with these remaining years on his contract..
2029.. 9.7 mil
2030.. 10.0 mil (team option $0 buyout)
It is June 1 2029 in my league. Has enough years he refuses minor league assignment after waiver DFA. My only recourse is to keep him on the MLB team or cut him. Have tried to trade but nobody is going to want him and that contract. And no, I'm not going to give away prospects to move him I'd be better off eating the 10 mil. I have no problem cutting him and eating the rest of the 9.7 mil for 2029. So what happens with the 10 mil that is a team option if I cut him?
Only thing I see in manual is a team gets an email to exercise or turn down the option at season's end. So...
Do I get stuck paying it since I never get the opportunity to turn in down at the end of 2029?
Or does it just "go away" since if I'm cutting him I certainly have no intention of exercising the option?
Anyone else done this and know the answer?
Thanks.
