The Arizona Wildcats looked like they were on the way to repeating with
Pedro Rodriguez going 11-1 with a 2.07 ERA in his first 12 starts. A shoulder injury ended Rodriguez's season and
Manny Reyes took over the starting pitcher job, going 0-3 with a 5.34 ERA. With four straight losses to end the season the Wildcats finished tied for first in the NBC West.
Martin Garcia started 13 games this year for the Angels and finished with a 10-2 record and 3.95 ERA as the Angels finished tied with the Wildcats for first place in the NBC West. Shortstop
Jorge Rojas hit .481 this year, the second highest season batting average in history, and the Angels scored 94 runs, more than any other team in the NBC.
Smoky Joe Wood had a career low 1.86 ERA and went 10-6 with 151 strikeouts in 145 innings as the Lions finished the year one game behind the Wildcats and Angels. The Lions will need to wait until the results of the tie-breaker games are finalized before they learn their fate.
The Legion tied for the second most runs in the NBC, but the Legion need to find a solution for who the starting pitcher is going to be.
Flint Baker (1-2, 6.15),
AL Mejia (3-4, 5.43), and
Juan Negron (0-0, 7.36) each started a game this year.
Pat Shelton was the second overall pick, and was named the #9 prospect in baseball, and appears to be the future solution. Until he arrives the Legion will likely struggle though.
