Louisville Bourbons (44-62 .415 28.5 GB in 8th (last) place in the Liberty League) at
Detroit Wolverines (73-34 .682 in 1st place)

Count Childs, Lou. (32-3.1) (R 5-14 4.88 10.2-2.7-4.2 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Jiggs Niedermeyer, Det. (25-5.8) (R 10-6 2.27 7.9-1.6-3.2)

We are 1-1 against Childs, but he has pitched well both times.

Lost - 3 to 1

They did not get their 1st hit until the 4th, but we made 4 errors and gave them 2 runs in the 2nd inning. Didn't we used to be a good fielding team?

Niedermeyer allowed 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4.

Childs gave us 5 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2.

We made 6 errors and Louisville made 5.

3B Jesse Flanders (28-5.4) had 2 hits, stole a base and scored a run. C Jimmy Babcock (31-6.9) hit a double and had an RBI.

Liberty League:
Boston (9) at Indianapolis (7): Freddy Wood (32-6.3) (9-8) over Levi Giddens (36-4.8) (10-18). CF Pat Stafford (27-5.4) had 4 hits with a triple and his 3rd home run of the season, scored 3 runs and had 4 RBIs. 2B Mike Stables (32-7.1) had 3 hits with his 8th home run of the year and 3 RBIs. RF Jocko Breton (25-4.5) hit his 2nd home run of the year.

Cincinnati (2) at Pittsburgh (0): Charlie Branham (28-4.2) (23-18) over Whitey Mathews (25-4.1) (23-20). Branham allowed 5 hits, no walks and struck out 3 in his 4th shutout of the season. Mathews allowed 7 hits, no walks and struck out 1.

New York (6) at Cleveland (1): Tom McDowell (24-8.0) (18-14) over Artie Boucher (25-6.1) (12-22). McDowell allowed 7 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2. At bat, he had 2 hits. 2B Dave Hay (26-5.7) hit his 7th home run of the year.

Grand National Association:
Washington (3) at Providence (1) Game 1: Pop Yurkovich (36-5.6) (17-22) over Ed Hodges (28-3.2) (17-15). Yurkovich allowed 6 hits, 4 walks and struck out 4.

Washington (13) at Providence (3) Game 2: Sammy Berry (28-5.5) (9-10) over Ed Wison (27-7.3) (12-14). Berry allowed 6 hits, 1 walk and struck out 1. Rookie 1B Dick Blake (27-6.7) had 3 hits and a walk, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBIs. He is now hitting .337 in 45 games.

Chicago (2) at St. Louis (6): Fred Barrow (36-4.7) (10-20) over Pat Seguin (24-4.4) (24-20). Losing to Fred Barrow with your ace pitching is not how you win pennants. Barrow allowed 4 hits, 3 walks and struck out 3. For the Colts, rookie LF Ed Marsh (23-8.7), playing in his 6th game, pulled a muscle and will miss a month.

Brooklyn (5) at Omaha (3): Al Green (25-3.8) (18-25) over Royal Parmelee (27-6.5) (1-4). RF Tom Campbell (30-3.6) had 2 hits with his 3rd home run of the season and drew a walk.

Elsewhere:
Down in the International League (A), our Syracuse Stars beat the Buffalo Bisons, 1 to 0, in 12 innings. P Ed Price (24-5.7) went the distance and only allowed 2 hits, no walks and struck out 9. At bat, he had 2 hits with a double. He is now 13-8 with a 1.66 ERA for Syracuse. But I said that he is done in Detroit and he is done in Detroit.
