Detroit Wolverines (70-31 .693 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Cleveland Spiders (46-58 .442 25.5 GB in 7th place)

Jiggs Niedermeyer, Det. (25-5.8) (R 9-5 2.11 7.7-1.3-3.1 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Artie Boucher, Clev. (25-6.1) (R 11-20 4.49 10.5-2.8-2.8)

We are 3-2 against Boucher on the season, but have not hit him well at all. We had 7 hits off him last time we met.

Won - 12 to 4

Okay, we can't say we have never hit Boucher any more.

Niedermeyer shut them out until the 8th and 3 runs in the 9th spoiled a nice line for him.

Niedermeyer allowed 11 hits, 3 walks and struck out 6.

We had 17 hits, 4 walks and struck out 5 times.

We made 1 error and Cleveland made 5.

2B Ed Aldrich (24-6.8) had 3 hits and scored a run. He will have a shot at winning the Batting Title, if he can stay healthy long enough to get the qualifying appearances. CF Fred Negus (24-6.7) had 3 hits, stole a base and scored 3 runs. 1B Sam Cowan (32-5.1) had 3 hits with a double, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. RF Ben Smith (29-6.7) had 3 hits with a triple and a walk, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had an RBI and made 2 nice catches in right. 3B Jesse Flanders (28-5.4) had 2 hits and a walk, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBIs. SS Ed Engelhardt (23-5.0) had 3 hits, stole 2 bases, scored a run and had an RBI.

For the Spiders, rookie LF Effie Poff (23-8.5) had 3 hits and scored a run. C Charlie Harris (28-5.9) had 2 hits with a triple and 3 RBIs.

Liberty League:
Pittsburgh (6) at Indianapolis (9): Jimmy Euler (27-5.5) (18-12) over Whitey Mathews (25-4.1) (21-19). Mathews did not pitch so great, but he hit a 2-run home run. 2B Bill Lawson (32-6.9) had 3 hits with a double, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. The Puddlers have lost 7 in a row.

Louisville (8) at New York (5): Jumbo Hoops (23-6.5) (13-11) over Jack Roberts (36-6.1) (7-16). Hoops allowed 5 hits, 3 walks and struck out 4. Roberts was victimized by his defense yet again. He allowed 7 hits, no walks and struck out 4, but the Gothams made 10 errors. 2B Bill Clark (32-6.5), in only his 3rd major league game of the season, had 3 hits with a triple, scored 3 runs and had an RBI. And then was promptly sent back to Albany in A Ball after the game. 1B Pete Hinde (33-7.9) had 2 hits with a triple and 4 RBIs.

Cincinnati (4) at Boston (8): William Little (27-6.0) (22-15) over William Butina (26-5.6) (10-13). SS Ducky Hogan (27-5.3) had 3 hits, scored a run and had an RBI. C Frank Douglas (33-5.8) stained his hamstring and will miss 2 weeks. RF Dan Abrams (29-5.1) sprained his thumb and will miss 2 weeks. For the Reds, LF Will Muller (24-6.4) had 3 hits with a double and a triple, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs.

Grand National Association:
St. Louis (1) at Brooklyn (2): William David (25-3.6) (21-19) over Fred Barrow (36-4.7) (9-20). David allowed only 1 hit (to P Barrow in the 6th), no walks and struck out 6. At bat, he hit a triple. Barrow allowed 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5. C Billy Boblett (30-5.4) hit his 2nd home run of the season.

Milwaukee (0) at Providence (9): Ed Wison (27-7.3) (12-13) over Dave Ward (23-6.1) (12-11). Wison allowed 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 8. CF Tom Herold (23-6.4) had 3 hits with a double and a triple and a walk, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs.

Kansas City (0) at Washington (7): Ed Bush (28-5.3) (20-22) over Lew Burnett (27-4.5) (14-13). Bush allowed 7 hits, no walks and struck out 2. Rookie 1B Dick Blake (27-6.7) had 4 hits, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs.

Chicago (6) at Omaha (0): Pat Seguin (24-4.4) (23-19) over Skyrocket Rice (23-5.2) (21-10). Seguin allowed 1 hit (in the 3rd inning), 1 walk and struck out 71B Joe Vaughan (33-5.2) had 2 hit in 2 trips to the plate, but strained his groin and will miss a week. His replacement, 1B Tommy Casale (28-3.7) had 2 hits, scored a run and had 3 RBIs.
