We traveled 700 miles, leaving the gray, rainy weather of New York for the gray, rainy weather of Indianapolis.
No game today.
Liberty League:
Cleveland (4) at Pittsburgh (5) in 11 innings: Whitey Mathews (25-4.1) (18-16) over Willard Clapp (26-4.3) (8-15). Both teams scored in the 10th. The winning run in the bottom of the 11th, scored on that raging new Ending-the-Game fashion that is sweeping the land: a passed ball. SS Jim Ware (34-5.6) had 3 hits, stole a base and scored a run.
New York (5) at Cincinnati (6) in 11 innings: John Stevens (31-8.2) (18-17) over Tom McDowell (24-8.0) (16-12) in relief of Jack Roberts (36-6.1). New York scored a run in the top of the 11th, but manager/LF Silver Borresen (34-6.9) hit a 2-out 2-run single to win the game in the bottom half of the inning. He had 3 hits and stole a base. Roberts had to leave the game with tightness in his back and will miss 2 weeks.
Boston (7) at Louisville (3): William Little (27-6.0) (18-14) over William McLeod (29-5.6) (16-19).
Grand National Association:
Brooklyn (7) at St. Louis (1): Al Green (25-3.8) (15-23) over Jimmy Richards (25-0.9) (13-20). Green allowed 6 hits, 3 walks and struck out 5. 1B Fred Collins (24-5.2) had 2 hits with his 4th home run of the season, stole 2 bases, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs.
