End of season awards for Dickson and Beane
By Bess Pitcher, Cy Young award correspondent
Oakland starting pitcher Karl Dickson has been rewarded for his fine performances throughout the season by picking up the 2028 American League Cy Young Award. The 26-year-old righty was asked by GM Paulie Beane to step into the shoes of departed superstar Jose Fernandez, and did so in some style. A workhorse as well as being consistently lethal on the mound, he threw 237.1 innings in 33 starts, earning a 20-9 record and 2.73 ERA. Overall in his career to date he has a 74-47 record and 3.02 ERA. The good news for A's fans is that the talented hurler remains under an affordable $14m per year contract for the next two seasons.
Beane himself was awarded his fifth American League manager of the year trophy, after previous victories in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2026. "That's nice", he said.
