We head out on the road now for a couple of weeks. First stop is Cincinnati, where we will meet manager/CF Silver Borresen (34-6.9) and his red hot Reds in a 3 game series. They are 17-2 in their last 19 games. We are 6-4 against them on the season, but lost 2 of 3 to them in Detroit a month ago the last time we met. They are 4th in the League in scoring with 4.7 runs per game (Detroit is #2 with 5.1). They are 4th in runs allowed with 4.8 per game (Detroit is #1 with 3.6). Their League Park has been toned down this season. It is still a decent place to hit, but the home runs are a lot harder to come than they used to be.
Detroit Wolverines (54-25 .684 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Cincinnati Reds (44-35 .557 10 GB in 2nd place)
Al Rice, Det. (23-7.6) (R 24-9 2.24 7.8-1.0-5.5 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. John Stevens, Cin. (31-8.2) (R 16-14 2.43 8.6-1.6-3.8)
We are 2-1 against Stevens on the season.
Won - 6 to 5 in 10 innings
Down 4 to 3 in the top of the 9th, 2B Ed Aldrich (24-6.8) tripled home run to tie the game and scored when CF Ren Dunbar (24-6.8) singled to put us up a run. But in the bottom of the 9th, 2 errors gave the Reds a run and tied the game. In the top of the 10th, SS Ed Engelhardt (23-5.0) singled home a run to put us ahead for good. He had 2 hits.
In 8 innings, Rice allowed 7 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2. After mentioning that Rice had not had an extra-base hit, he rectified that by hitting a triple today, scoring a run and knocking 1 in.
In 2 innings, Perrell allowed 1 unearned run on 2 hits.
In 10 innings, Stevens gave us 11 hits, 2 walks and struck out 7.
We made 6 errors and Cincinnati made 2.
