Manager Elmer Higgins (42-6.4) has his Bourbons in town to begin a 3 game series today. We are 3-3 against them this season and took 2 of 3 from them in Louisville back at Decoration Day the last time we met. They are dead last in scoring with 4.2 runs per game (Detroit is 4th with 4.7). They are 3rd in runs allowed with 4.6 per game (Detroit is #1 with 3.4).

Louisville Bourbons (26-31 .456 11 GB tied for 5th place in the Liberty League) at
Detroit Wolverines (38-21 .644 in 1st place)

Mert Gross, Lou. (30-5.8) (R 1-4 3.61 8.5-3.8-2.1 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Jiggs Niedermeyer, Det. (24-5.8) (R 7-5 2.24 7.4-1.2-3.2)

We have not faced Gross this season.

Won - 7 to 6 in 12 innings

Niedermeyer was horrible, but our defense picked him up just enough to get us by. He is now on a train to Syracuse to get himself rehabilitated and Ed Price (24-5.7) will get another chance to show what he can do. Each team scored twice in the 10th inning. 3B Ed Aldrich (24-6.8) finally ended the game with a 1-out single in the bottom of the 12th.

In 10 innings, Niedermeyer allowed 18 hits, 3 walks and struck out 3. At bat, he had 2 hits, scored a run and had an RBI.
In 2 innings, Al Rice (23-7.6) only allowed a walk and picked up the win.

Gross gave us 15 hits, 6 walks and struck out 2. At bat, he had 2 hits and an RBI. He is the 3rd pitcher in a row with 2 hits and an RBI against us.

We made 2 errors and Louisville made 3.

CF Ren Dunbar (24-6.8) had 2 hits and an RBI. 1B Sam Boullion (28-4.8) had 2 hits and made a great play to foil a suicide squeeze. RF/CF Fred Bianco (29-6.9) hit a triple, drew 2 walks, stole 2 bases and scored 2 runs and threw 2 runners out at the plate. 2B Reddy Daley (24-6.8) had 3 hits, stole a base, scored a run and had an RBI. SS Ed Engelhardt (23-5.0) strained his groin and will be gimpy for a week or so.
