Metropolitan Baseball League
Week Seventeen: Saturday 27 June 1874

Four of today's double games were shared one each, the only one which was not allowed the Royal Artillery Barracks to extend their lead in the standings as they beat the Marylebone Regents twice. In the first game a three-run third inning turned around a 1-0 deficit for the Artillery, while the second game went to extra innings only for the league leaders to find six runs in the tenth to make it a big win.

Angel Islington really should have won both against the City of London Club, but let slip a 4-2 lead in the ninth inning of the first game and lost in eleven. They recovered to win the second 6-3. Peckham Rye also lost ground on the Artillery despite rallying to win their first game against Clapham Common thanks to two runs in the eighth. Common led from start to finish to win game two and share the day.

Kensington Victoria earned a rare win in their first game against Greenwich, a two run fourth inning turning it in their favour and then further runs in the next four innings making it look easy. Meridian won a tight second game though, breaking a 1-1 tie with a run in the eighth. Hackney and the Old Westminsters almost played three as their first game took seventeen inning, with the Westminsters winning it 6-5. Thankfully the second game was much quicker, the Exiles leading all the way from the second inning to take it 3-1 as the light faded.
