The fans of the Colonels were cheered in August when they managed to move out of the basement of the AL table. The 14-13 month saw the team move up to 7th place with a 4.5 game lead over bottom place and a 45.5 game deficit to the leaders.

The injury news wasn't the best for the Colonels during August. They lost Third Baseman Dick Van Zant for 3 weeks of the month with a fractured rib. The end of the month also saw the team lose Second Baseman John Morrill for 4 weeks with a high ankle sprain.

Centre Fielder Bug Holliday has continued to improve through his first season. This has culminated to the month of August that saw him claim 38 hits from 98 at bats during 27 games. He scored 22 runs with 13 RBI's for an average of .388. This earned him the AL Rookie of the Month award.
