CF Ren Dunbar (24-6.8) had 2 hits and a walk, but no runs or RBIs. 1B Sam Cowan (32-5.1) had 2 hits with a triple, stole a base, scored 3 runs and had an RBI. RF Ben Smith (28-6.7) had 2 hits with his 4th home run of the season, scored 2 runs and had 4 RBIs. C Cliff Robinson (30-6.1) had 3 hits, scored 3 runs and had an RBI and threw out the only runner to attempt a steal. LF Al Lewis (22-9.1) had 2 hits with a double, stole a base and had 2 RBIs. 2B Pat Dunbar (26-8.3), besides the 3 errors, had 2 hits with a triple and 2 RBIs.
Liberty League:
Cleveland (5) at Louisville (4): Willard Clapp (25-4.3) (3-4) over Jumbo Hoops (23-6.5) (4-2).
Indianapolis (3) at New York (2) in 11 innings: Sal DeVaux (33-3.5) (4-10) over Tom McWilliams (26-4.3) (0-5). In 11 innings, DeVaux allowed 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4. McWilliams allowed 7 hits, 1 walk and struck out 5. He has only allowed 8 total runs in his last 3 starts but has lost them all.
Pittsburgh (8) at Boston (1): Whitey Mathews (25-4.1) (8-5) over William Little (27-6.0) (10-5). Mathews allowed 8 hits, no walks and struck out 3. At bat, he had a hit and 2 RBIs.
Grand National Association:
St. Louis (4) at Brooklyn (5): William David (25-3.6) (7-6) over Tom Wilmarth (28-5.4) (4-7). Rookie 2B Con Nixon (25-8.1) had 3 hits with a triple and his 2nd home run of the year, stole a base and had 2 RBIs.
Milwaukee (11) at Providence (8): Kid Henze (23-5.2) (2-1) over Ed Wison (27-7.3) (4-4). 2B Lou Bohus (28-5.4) had 4 hits with a double and was hit by a pitch, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. 1B Andy Byl (34-4.0) hit a double and a home run, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBIs.
Kansas City (7) at Washington (19): Sammy Berry (28-5.5) (4-5) over Dan Butler (30-4.7) (2-5). A lot of guys had pretty good days at the plate, but the best was probably CF Ben Spencer (27-4.2), who had 4 hits, scored 3 runs and had 4 RBIs. The Monuments only hit 1 extra-base hit and Kansas City hit none.
Chicago (11) at Omaha (10) in 11 innings: Tom Washam (35-6.1) (2-1) over Royal Parmelee (27-6.5) (0-2). Chicago scored 4 times in the top of the 11th and Omaha almost tied it up in the bottom half. 19 walks by these 2 pitchers. LF George Everman (31-6.3), in his 1st start of the season, had 4 hits with a double, stole a base, scored a run and had 3 RBIs.
Elsewhere:
Down in Syracuse, 3B Sam Boullion (28-4.8) had 4 hits and a walk, scored a run and had 4 RBIs. He has hit 18 for 34 (.529) since being sent down and will be heading back to us tomorrow.
