Detroit Wolverines (20-13 .606 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Cincinnati Reds (16-16 .500 3.5 GB in 5th place)

Al Rice, Det. (23-7.6) (R 10-4 1.90 6.8-0.9-6.0 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Charlie Branham, Cin. (28-4.2) (R 6-5 3.25 9.2-1.8-2.9)

Branham is the only pitcher to have beaten us twice already.

Won - 10 to 3

Rice gave up a hit in the 9th and and had to leave the game when he landed funny on his ankle during his follow-through. My heart went up into my throat, but it turned out to be relatively minor and he should be 100% in a couple of days.

In 8 innings, Rice allowed 6 hits, no walks and struck out 3. He did not allow an earned run. At bat, he had a hit, scored a run and had an RBI. I do not want to get too optimistic, but in the past week or two, Cowan has begun to show glimpses of the player of old, before the busted kneecap.

We had 9 hits and tied our season high with 5 walks.

We made 4 errors and Cincinnati made 3.

CF Ren Dunbar (24-6.8) hit a double and scored a run. SS Ed Engelhardt (23-5.0) hit a triple and drew a walk, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. 1B Sam Cowan (32-5.1) hit a double and a triple, drew a walk, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. C Jimmy Babcock (31-6.9) had 2 hits and was beaned, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. LF Al Lewis (22-9.1) hit a triple. 2B Pat Dunbar (26-8.3) hit a double and drew 2 walks, scored a run and had an RBI. I think I mentioned it before, but he and Ren are not related. Ren is from Chicago and Pat grew up out in the Territories somewhere. 3B Dave Odekirk (23-6.5) went hitless and is 1 for his last 22. I think when Ed Aldrich returns in a few days, Odekirk will be taking a trip to Syracuse.

Liberty League:
Cleveland (7) at Louisville (2): Lou Townley (26-3.4) (10-5) over Count Childs (32-3.1) (4-7). Townley allowed 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 5. Rookie 2B Zachary Pfeiffer (20-4.5) had 3 hits with his 2nd home run of the season, scored 3 runs and had 2 RBIs.

Indianapolis (3) at New York (4): Tom McDowell (24-8.0) (6-5) over Frank McSherry (32-4.1) (3-6). SS Pussy Wise (26-6.8) hit a home run. For the Hoosiers, SS Jake Steitz (29-4.7) hit his 3rd home run of the year. 1B Dick Thacker (27-7.6) pulled a muscle and will miss 5 to 6 weeks.

Pittsburgh (12) at Boston (7): Tom Lilly (28-6.4) (10-4) over Dave Wolf (25-4.7) (5-9). C Evan Eckberg (32-3.5) and 2B Jumbo Lynn (28-3.8) each hit a home run. SS Jim Ware (34-5.6) had 4 hits with a double, scored 3 runs and had 3 RBIs. For the Shamrocks, 3B Highball Baxter (22-5.7) had 4 hits and an RBI.

Grand National Association:
St. Louis (5) at Brooklyn (2): Jimmy Richards (25-0.9) over Al Green (25-3.8) (6-10). Richards allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2. 7 Brooklyn errors greatly aided the Terrier cause.

Milwaukee (4) at Providence (0): Freddy Wood (32-6.3) (3-5) over Tom Ashton (24-5.2) (7-7). Wood allowed 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 3.

Kansas City (5) at Washington (3): Lew Burnett (27-4.5) (8-6) over Pop Yurkovich (36-5.6) (7-5). 2B Jim McCarthy (26-7.5) had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBIs.

Chicago (4) at Omaha (5) in 10 innings: Tom Lee (30-6.0) (5-8) over Pony Stanley (25-6.2) (8-4). In 10 innings, Stanley allowed 9 hits, no walks and struck out 7.
