Manager/CF Silver Borresen (34-6.9) brings his surging Reds to town today to begin a 4 game series. They have won 4 in a row to move over .500 after a slow start. They finished 2nd to us last season. They are 2nd in the League in scoring with 5.4 runs per game (Detroit is 7th with 4.5). They are 6th in runs allowed with 5.5 per game (Detroit is #1 with 3.4).

Cincinnati Reds (9-8 .529 1.5 GB tied for 3rd place in the Liberty League) at
Detroit Wolverines (11-7 .611 1st place)

John Stevens, Cin. (31-8.2) (R 5-2 2.47 7.5-1.3-4.2 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Al Rice, Det. (23-7.6) (R 5-2 2.45 7.8-1.0-5.2)

Today, the bench players will get some action, since we never hit Stevens much anyways.

Won- 3 to 2

In the first inning, the Reds got their lead-off man to 3rd with no outs, but Rice got manager/CF Silver Borresen to ground out to 3rd and then he struck out 1B Willie Burton (33-8.5) and RF Fleet Wilcox (31-4.9) to end the threat.

I tried to trade Sam Boullion (28-4.8) this past Winter and no one wanted him because of his high salary. He made 3 errors today and I have banished him and his .135 batting average from the team. I am hoping I can find someone to trade him to before his train arrives in Syracuse tomorrow. If not, he can rot on the Syracuse's bench....

Rice allowed 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 10. At bat, he had 3 hits and an RBI. Now, THAT's lookin' like an Ace!

Stevens gave us 8 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2.

We made 6 errors and Cincinnati made 3.

RF Hi Bowman (24-5.5), in his first at bat as a Wolverine, hit a home run. He later drew a walk. He will later get to play more games for the Wolverines. LF Ben Smith (28-6.7) had a hit to extend his streak to 16 games, stole 2 bases and scored a run. Two games in a row now, he got a hit in his last at bat to keep the streak alive. 1B Honus Paulson (29-8.4) hit a double and scored a run in his Wolverine debut. We signed him as emergency filler material a week or so ago, since we have so many players on the Disabled List and I did not want to call up any of the rookies.

IF Jack Potter (33-6.8) is eligible to come off the Disabled List and will take Boullion's spot. Not sure he is an upgrade, but at least he is nicer and cannot really do much worse.

Liberty League:

Boston (6) at Cleveland (4) in 10 innings: William Little (27-6.0) (5-3) over Lou Townley (26-3.4) (4-4). 2B Mike Stables (32-7.1) had 4 hits with a double, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. CF Pat Stafford (27-5.4) will be sore for a few weeks after getting hit by a Townley fastball on his elbow, but he should be able to play.

Grand National Association:

Washington (15) at Providence (7): Ed Bush (27-5.3) (4-3) over Tom Ashton (24-5.2) (3-5). 3B George Heubner (35-5.2) had 4 hits with a double and a home run, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 6 RBIs. 1B Billy Little (35-3.6) tied the GNA record with 3 doubles. He scored a run.

Brooklyn (9) at Omaha (0): Al Green (25-3.8) (3-7) over Tom Lee (30-6.0) (4-4). Green allowed 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5. He has won 3 of his last 4 after starting 0-6. C Billy Boblett (30-5.4) and 1B Fred Collins (24-5.2) each hit a home run. I tried to get Collins over the Winter, but they wanted too much.

Chicago (3) at Milwaukee (1): Pat Seguin (24-4.4) (7-2) over Zachary Buchanan (27-4.0) (3-5). Seguin allowed 5 hits, no walks and struck out 3. Buchanan allowed 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3.
