Louisville Bourbons (8-7 .533 2.5 GB in 3rd place in the Liberty League) at
Detroit Wolverines (11-5 .688 1st place)

Jumbo Hoops, Lou. (23-6.5) (R 2-1 1.37 5.5-2.4-3.1 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Dave Frazier, Det. (28-5.7) (L 4-2 2.47 9.5-0.7-2.1)

Lost - 4 to 3

The best thing to happen today was that Frazier beaned Tom Panozzo (23-2.0).

The game was tied at 3 going into the 9th, but 2 errors once again sunk us.

Frazier allowed 10 hits, no walks and struck out 1. It is the 3rd straight game that our pitchers have not walked a batter.

Hoops gave us 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4. At bat, he had a hit and scored a run.

Each team made 6 errors.

RF Ben Smith (28-6.7) hit a double to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. He was also picked off 1st base for the 3rd time this season. No one had ever been picked off more than twice in a whole season before in any year I have managed. 3B Jesse Flanders (28-5.4) hit a triple and scored a run, but hurt his elbow making a throw and will miss the next 2 months. Now, the 2 big hitters I traded for to perk up our offense are both out for an extended period of time. It's as if I gave away half my team now for absolutely nothing. LF Al Lewis (22-9.1) had a hit and 2 RBIs, but was caught stealing 3 times.

3B Dave Odekirk (23-6.5) will be sent for from Syracuse to join the team.

Liberty League:
Boston (7) at Pittsburgh (6): Dan Gilbert (28-6.6) (1-0) in his 1st major league start over Joe Peters (32-4.9) (1-2). Gilbert missed all of last season with an elbow injury. He walked 8 in the game, but Peters walked 9. 3B Highball Baxter (22-5.7) had 3 hits with a double, stole a base, scored a run and had 4 RBIs. C Hub West tied the Liberty League record by drawing 4 walks. He also had a hit and an RBI.

Cincinnati (4) at Indianapolis (2): William Butina (25-5.6) (2-2) over Levi Giddens (36-4.8) (1-3). Butina allowed 9 hits, 3 walks and struck out 2. 1B Willie Burton (33-8.5) hit 2 home runs to give him 3 on the season and had 3 RBIs. For the Hoosiers, LF Hick Fahl (31-5.3) hit a home run.

Grand National Association:
Washington (5) at Omaha (4): Pop Yurkovich (36-5.6) (4-3) over Tom Lee (30-6.0) (4-3). Yurkovich allowed 7 hits, 4 walks and struck out 1. C Caleb Sawyer (29-8.9) had 3 hits, scored 2 runs and had an RBI.

Kansas City (0) at Chicago (5): Pat Seguin (24-4.4) (6-2) over Al McClaughry (24-5.6) (5-2). Seguin allowed 3 hits, no walks and struck out 5. McClaughry allowed 2 hits, 5 walks and struck out 5.

St. Louis (7) at Milwaukee (3): Jimmy Richards (25-0.9) (1-0) over Kid Henze (23-5.2) (0-1) in his major league debut. Richards allowed 7 hits, 1 walk and struck out 6. 3B Kid Powell (25-7.5) had 3 hits with a double and a triple, stole a base and scored 3 runs.
