De La Hoya Wins
De La Hoya retained the lightly regarded World Boxing Organization lightweight title with a third-round technical knockout at the MGM Grand.
Referee Mitch Halpern stopped the bout 1:02 into the third after De La Hoya decked Griffith with a vicious left hook. Griffith got back on his feet but still was wobbly when Halpern stopped the bout
The title bout headed the James Toney-Roy Jones Jr. super middleweight title fight undercard on pay per view.
"I'm more mature now," De La Hoya said “I can take my time. If a knockout comes, it comes.
I've been training hard and I think it shows I'm ready for the big fights now."
