Robinson Drops Nelson

Sugar Ray Robinson made the first defense of his unified lightweight title a short one as he knocked out Azumah Nelson in the third round of a scheduled 12-rounder.
Nelson, the 36-year-old Ghanaian veteran, was saved as he hit the canvas at 2:57 in the third.
Nelson's only trip to the canvas came after Robinson displayed his ring brilliance by pounding the former champion into a bloody mess in less than nine minutes of ring action.
