Stewart's hot form earns pitcher of the month honours

Oakland A's pitcher Rodney Stewart has been in sensational form so far this season, and was rewarded for his efforts with the American League pitcher of the month award for April. Stewart went 4-0 in four starts, allowing just 4 runs in 32.2 innings pitched for a 1.10 ERA. He has helped Oakland to a 15-7 start in defence of their World Series crown.
A delighted Stewart told assembled reporters at yesterday's club press conference, "I'm supposed to say something along the lines of how it is the team that comes first, and that the only thing that matters to me is that we won the games I played in, and that it is only with the help of my team mates that I've put up those numbers this month. But we all know, deep down, no baseball player really thinks these things. If the team wins but I play dreadfully I'll get cut. So I'm well chuffed with this honour, which is all down to me." Stewart added, "The club have got me booked onto a media training refresher course in a couple of days."
