Opening Day
The 2016 season is here and the disappointing last-place finish of the previous year is now behind. With some new faces on the team, it should be a fun year of baseball in Boston.
What better way to start the new year than by going to Miami to take on the Marlins and getting a win. Boston jumped out with a quick four (4) runs in the first inning and never looked back. Recently acquired pitcher Sonny Gray took the mound against the young ace of the Marlins, Jose Fernandez.
While Fernandez was knocked out of the game before the 4th inning was complete (game score of 30), Gray pitched a solid 8 innings and then turned the ball over to Tazawa in the 9th to close out the game. Gray finished with 8 innings of 6 hit, 1 run (earned) ball, striking out 8 batters and only walking 1. Game score of 73.
The Boston hitters showed a little pop at the plate, with seven (7) different players getting a hit, including four (4) extra base hits on the 8 hits total. Pedroia went 2 for 3 (triple) on the day, while Bradley provided the main offense by blasting a 3 run shot in the first inning. It was nice to see that the Boston defense committed no errors on the day.
Season Record: 1-0 (Tied 1st Place)
