The fans of the Red Stockings were a little disappointed with their teams form drifted during May. The team picked up 13 wins along with 17 losses during the month. This has seen their place in the NL table drift down to 4th with the gap to the leaders growing to 2.5 games.

The team lost the services of Short Stop Bobby Wheelock for most of the month of May after he was sidelined with a sprained knee early in the month. He missed 4 weeks and returned to the team at the end of the month.

The batting continues to struggle to be consistent and it fall to the pitching to try and keep the team in some sort of form. The top pitcher this month continues to be Alex Voss. Voss started 10 games and picked up 6 wins. He pitched 85 innings to give up 70 hits and 18 earned runs for an ERA of 1.91.
