June 2027 - In Review

June 2027 Award Winners

Delaware Conference Monthly Awards

DEConfs's Top Hitter Named: Peter Peters received the Delaware Conference Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month. "He might be getting older," New Castle's manager told reporters, "But he's been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together... and he doesn't keep that to himself. He's always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping 'em any way they'll let him. Peter's value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field." To win the honor Peters put up a .432 batting average, 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 13 times in June. This year Peters has hit at a .326 pace and produced 44 RBIs, 14 home runs and scored 39 runs.

June's Top Starter Named in DEConf: In June, Lanny Reese tore through the Delaware Conference like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 23 years old. The young Christiana starter posted a 5-0 mark and an ERA of 2.03 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 44.1 innings he collected 27 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .212 average. Reese has posted a 11-1 record for the year with a 2.50 ERA. Teams are hitting .218 against him and he has rung up 74 strikeouts in 115.1 innings.

DEConf Selects Rookie Star of the Month: Ryan Sutton's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young New Castle center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .283 with 8 doubles, 1 triple and 4 home runs. Sutton also scored 12 times and drove in 26 runs. This year Sutton is hitting .328 with 8 home runs and 39 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .373 clip and scored 20 runs.

MarVa Conference Monthly Awards

Valéncia Takes MVDIV's Best Bat Trophy: Domingo Valéncia of the Tourists hit .400 in June with 7 home runs, 27 RBIs and 25 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the MarVa Conference Batter of the Month trophy. The 30-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise. This year Valéncia has hit 13 home runs and posted a .311 batting average.

June's Premier Pitcher Announced By MVDIV: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Mike Newman still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 28-year-old starter for Ocean City was named MarVa Conference Pitcher of the Month earlier today. He collected 6 wins and no losses with 38 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.17 ERA in 45.2 innings of work. This season Newman has registered 9 wins and 5 losses in 16 starts with a 4.95 ERA.

MarVa Conference Names Rookie of Month: A veritable toddler to the MarVa Conference, José García just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June. Over the past month the 22-year-old third baseman for Ocean City hit .280 with 30 hits, 1 home run and 10 RBI. He also logged 3 walks and compiled a .301 on-base percentage. For the season, García is hitting at a .325 clip with 7 home runs, 35 RBIs and has scored 51 runs. He has 83 hits, 11 walks and a .357 on-base percentage.

Standings - July 5, 2027

Southern Division:
Current Leader: Milton Brewers (51-31 .622 / +5.5)
Projected Winner: Dover Generals (92-70 .568 / +1)
The Brewers lead the DC in runs scored and runs against and that is the reason they hold a 5 game lead. They have a young offense that the experts just don't give enough credit to and pitching staff lead by two of the games top starters (Fareles, Rocha). If the Generals want to make a run they will need to start getting better pitching. Currenty they are 9th in the league in runs against with their top pitcher sittingon the DL for 2 more weeks.

Northern Division:
Current Leader: Wilmington Iron Pigs (44-37 .543 / +1.0)
Projected Winner: Wilmington Iron Pigs (93-69 .574 / +1)
The Iron Pigs are suprisingly struggling despite having the leages second best offense and 2nd best starting staff. They will need to tighten up their bullpen (10th) if they want to hold off the charging Millers and Colonials. The Millers will need to hit the ball better and the Colonials need to keep Peters healthy. This division looked like it was going to be a run away for the Iron Pigs has turned into the tighest race in the DBL.

Eastern Division:
Current Leader: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs (51-30 .630 / +3.5)
Projected Winner: Ocean City Tourists (88-74 .543 / +2)
The Eastern Division should be interesting over the final half of the season, with three teams battling it out. The Surf Dawgs have the top offense, but an average pitching staff, the Tourists are right behind the Dawgs in offense and pitching, and the Blue Crabs are right in the middle on both. This division is really going to come down to who can get the most out of their starters.

Western Division:
Current Leader: Norfolk Cavaliers (55-25 .688 / +10.0)
Projected Winner: Norfolk Cavaliers (116-46 .716 / +21)
Injures have kept the Washington Senators from making a run and they continue to fall further back. The surprising Ellicott City team is ten games out, as they have a mix of youth and vets that are putting together career seasons. The Cavaliers are putting together a solid seasons as their bats have warmed after after a slow first month. They are surprising and with the latest injury to a starter they now have 3 rookies in the starting rotation. Will that affect their season? Will they continue to win? Can the rookies manage full years? There will be a lot of questions to be answered over the following 81 games that is for sure...
