The Boston Red Caps released P Joe Peters (31-4.9) today. The most feared left-hander of the past 5 seasons, Peters has a career record of 155-89 (.635). He tore his triceps muscle right before the season started and missed 3 months. Since coming back, he is 2-4 with a 4.98 ERA. In his last start, he gave up 13 runs, walking 7 batters and striking out 2. He still seems to throw as hard as ever, but the pitches are straight now when they used to have a lot of movement and they don't appear to go where he intended.

Louisville Bourbons (54-54 .500 14.5 GB in 4th place in the Liberty League) at
Detroit Wolverines (68-39 .636 1st Place)

William McLeod, Lou. (28-5.6) (R 26-16 3.98 9.2-4.0-3.7 H-BB-K/9) vs. Dave Frazier, Det. (27-5.7) (L 12-5 2.24 8.1-2.3-2.8).

We are 3-2 against our old teammate this season.

Won - 6 to 1

Frazier allowed 7 hits, 3 walks and struck out 1.

McLeod gave us 10 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2.

We made no errors and Louisville made 3.

RF Ben Smith (28-6.7) hit his 12th home of the season, a 3 run blast in the 1st inning. He also drew a walk. 2B Al Shaffer (27-5.6) had 2 hits and stole a base. CF Tom Duncan (22-6.6) had 2 hits with a double and scored a run. He is hitting .333 in September. C Tom Trever (25-4.7) had 3 hits for the 2nd straight game, stole a base and scored a run. He has 13 hits in his last 5 games.

For the Bourbons, there are no home runs to report, for a change.

Liberty League:

Pittsburgh (2) at Cleveland (3): Artie Boucher (24-6.1) (10-14) over Whitey Mathews (24-4.1) (20-24). Boucher allowed 6 hits, 4 walks and struck out 3. Mathews allowed 12 hits, 1 walk and struck out 4. SS Jesse Flanders (27-5.4) had 4 hits and scored a run.

Boston (4) at New York (10): Tom McDowell (23-8.0) (7-10) over Will Vertner (24-6.9) (1-1). McDowell allowed 9 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. Vertner is the man who took Joe Peters spot on the roster. He walked 7 and struck out 1.

Indianapolis (10) at Cincinnati (11): Charlie Branham (27-4.2) (29-24) over Jimmy Euler (26-5.5) (14-17). 1B Willie Burton (32-8.5) tripled to lead off the bottom of the 9th and Branham singled him home with 2 outs to win the game. At bat, Branham had 3 hits and a walk, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. C John Whelan (26-4.6) hit his 6th home run of the season.

Grand National Association:

Baltimore (5) at Providence (6) in 10 innings: Egyptian Hooker (39-3.9) (2-4) in relief of Tom Ashton (23-5.2) over Ike Chase (27-6.2) (1-5). Providence scored twice in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game and 3B Bill Loschiavo (29-5.8) tripled and scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th on a passed ball. Chase did not pitch so well, but at bat, he had 4 hits with a triple and scored a run.
