Indianapolis Hoosiers (42-52 .447 19 GB in 6th place)

Lou Townley, Det. (25-3.4) (R 29-10 2.55 8.8-1.4-3.6 H-BB-K/9) vs. Sal DeVaux, Ind. (32-3.5) (R 15-15 4.79 10.4-4.3-2.4).

We are 3-1 against our old teammate.

Won - 6 to 4

We were up 6 to 1 going into the 9th. Townley allowed 3 runs and left the bases loaded. Through the 1st 4 innings, we had 1 total base runner.

Townley allowed 11 hits, 5 walks and struck out 5.

DeVaux gave us 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. At bat, he hit a double.

We made 3 errors and Indianapolis made 4.

2B Al Shaffer (27-5.6) had 2 hits with a double, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. LF Al Lewis (22-9.1) had a hit and a walk, scored 2 runs and and an RBI. CF Tom Duncan (22-6.6) had 3 hits and 2 RBIs.

For the Hoosiers, SS Jake Steitz (28-4.7) had 2 hits with a triple and a walk, stole a base and had 2 RBIs. Rookie CF Dave McQueary (24-5.0) had 2 hits with a double and scored a run. 2B Bob Moran (35-4.5) had 2 hits with a triple and a walk, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs.

Liberty League:
New York (9) at Louisville (11): Sammy Berry (27-5.5) (9-7) over Jack Roberts (35-6.1) (14-26). New York out-hit Louisville 17 to 11, but made 8 errors. C Wiley Fobes (36-2.5) hit a double and 2 home runs, drew a walk and had 3 RBIs. He now has 4 home runs on the season. SS Freddy Parsley (27-7.5) has a sore back and will sit for a week to see if it feels better then. For the Gothams, 3B Ed Glass (28-4.5) hit his 5th home run of the year. C Charlie Harris (27-5.9) will miss 2-3 weeks with a sprained wrist he suffered in a collision at the plate, but he was the runner, not the catcher.

Cincinnati (5) at Pittsburgh (3): John Stevens (30-8.2) (22-18) over Fred Horner (26-3.8) (2-7). Stevens allowed 7 hits, no walks and struck out 2. He has won 4 in a row. For the Puddlers, SS Jim Ware (33-5.6) had a sore shoulder and will miss about 5 days.

Cleveland (4) at Boston (14): William Little (26-6.0) (20-17) over Artie Boucher (24-6.1) (8-10). Little allowed 5 hits, 1 walk and struck out 6. 3B Ed Tummino (25-5.8) had 3 hits with his 4th home run of the year, drew 2 walks and scored 4 runs. C Frank Douglas (32-5.8) hit his 3rd home run of the season.

Grand National Association:
Baltimore (13) at Kansas City (6): Pop Yurkovich (35-5.6) (19-23) over Lew Burnett (26-4.5) (25-24). Since Yurkovich is now 8-2 in his last 11 starts, the baseball gods were worried that he may have ended up with a winning record if they did not act swiftly. So they put a strain on his elbow and he will miss the rest of the season. In 6.1 innings, he allowed 1 earned run, 3 hits, 3 walks and struck out 4. 3B Phil Lane (27-7.4) pulled a stomach muscle and will miss 3 to 4 weeks.

Omaha (3) at Milwaukee (7): Zachary Buchanan (26-4.0) (24-17) over Tom Lee (29-6.0) (18-16). Buchanan allowed 10 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2. He is 9-3 in his last 13 starts. Lee has lost 4 of his last 5. For the Mutuals, 1B Tom Anglin (34-5.6) will miss 2 to 3 weeks with a sprained elbow.

Brooklyn (12) at St. Louis (8) in 10 innings: William David (24-3.6) (10-9) over Ted Ryther (33-4.3) (24-19). LF Kid Orr (28-5.6) hit his 3rd home run of the year. For the Terriers, CF James McClellan (29-4.7) hit his 4th.

Providence (6) at Chicago (5): Tom Ashton (23-5.2) (6-6) over Pony Stanley (24-6.2) (13-11) in relief of Pete Rinehart (28-6.2). Ashton allowed 7 hits, 4 walks and struck out 4. Rinehart had to leave in the 8th inning with a tired arm and will rest for 5 days or so. In 7.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs (2 earned), 5 hits, no walks and struck out 2. For the Colts, rookie 3B Stub Nelson (25-5.6) hit his 2nd home run of the season. LF Candy Simpson (28-6.8) hit his 5th.
