We are in Indiana to start a 3 game series today against manager Bill Shell (43-6.3) and his Hoosiers today. We are 10-3 against them so far this year and we swept 3 games from then in Detroit a few weeks ago, though every game was a 1-run affair. They are 4th in runs scored with 6.3 per game (Detroit is back down to last with 5.9). They are last in runs allowed with 7.1 per game (Detroit is #1 with 4.7). Their 7th Street Park is the most even-handed park in the League to batters and pitchers, though hitting home runs out to left is a lot easier than hitting them to right.

Detroit Wolverines (61-32 .656 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Indianapolis Hoosiers (41-52 .441 20 GB in 6th place)

Al Rice, Det. (22-7.6) (R 9-6 2.93 9.6-1.4-3.5 H-BB-K/9) vs. Jimmy Euler, Ind. (26-5.5) (R 11-13 2.96 9.1-3.3-2.8).

Lost - 3 to 1

Euler retired the 1st 13 Wolverines he faced.

Rice allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4.

Euler gave us 3 hits, no walks and struck out 6. At bat, he had a hit and scored a run. This was the best pitched game against us all year.

We made 2 errors and Indianapolis made 4.

RF Ben Smith (28-6.7) hit a double.

Next season, this team is going to score runs, I promise. I am sick of this crap and I am getting rid of every low character on the team and every non-hitting bum we have, provided I don't get fired. We may be in 1st place, but we are the most boring team in the League.

Liberty League:

New York (3) at Louisville (5): William McLeod (28-5.6) (23-14) over Miah Turner (26-5.3) (20-13). McLeod allowed 8 hits, 4 walks and struck out 4. Turner allowed 8 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2.

Cincinnati (7) at Pittsburgh (8): Bill Henrichs (28-7.4) (4-4) in relief of Whitey Mathews (24-4.1) over Charlie Branham (27-4.2) (25-21). Pittsburgh scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th and 3 more in the bottom of the 9th to win. The winning run scored on a passed ball. The Reds out-hit the Puddlers 16 to 7. SS Jim Ware (33-5.6), an ex-Red, hit his 4th home run of the season.

Cleveland (7) at Boston (2): Ed Pedersen (25-5.1) (19-27) over Dave Wolf (24-4.7) (14-7). Pedersen allowed 9 hits, 6 walks and struck out 3. He is 6-3 in his last 9 starts. Cleveland did not make an error. For the Red Caps, 2B Mike Stables (31-7.1) hit his 7th home run of the year.

Grand National Association:

Baltimore (1) at Kansas City (5): Dave Hendrich (24-6.0) (3-2) in relief of AL McClaughry (23-5.6) over Bill McGee (29-7.9) (4-7). McClaughry had to leave in the 5th inning with a sore ankle, but they say he'll be fine in a day or two. In 4.1 innings of shutout relief, Hendrich allowed 3 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2. For the Orioles, rookie CF Jimmy Sleeman (24-3.3) had 4 hits with a double, stole a base and scored a run.

Omaha (8) at Milwaukee (6) in 11 innings: Lee Sprague (27-3.5) (21-26) over Freddy Wood (31-6.3) (22-20). 3B Bones Collins (32-4.4) hit a 2-out, 2-run triple in the top of the 11th to put Omaha ahead.

Brooklyn (9) at St. Louis (10): Fred Barrow (35-4.7) (20-19) over Ren French (26-4.9) (21-19). St. Louis hit 7 doubles. Rookie 1B Pat Matthews (24-5.1) pulled a muscle and will miss about 5 weeks. For the Gladiators, rookie 3B Ed Cheney (24-7.8) hit his 5th home run of the year.

Providence (9) at Chicago (5): Ed Hodges (27-3.2) (11-27) over Pat Seguin (23-4.4) (32-17). Chicago out-hit Providence 14 to 11, but made 6 errors while the Grays only made 2. Rookie LF Tom Herold (22-6.4) hit a double and a home run, drew a walk, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 4 RBIs.
