Townley allowed 12 hits, 1 walk and struck out 4. At bat, he had a hit and a walk.
McLeod gave us 7 hits, 4 walks and struck out 4.
Neither team made an error.
RF Ben Smith (28-6.7) had 2 hits and an RBI. Al Lewis (22-9.1) hit a pinch-hit home run, his 5th home run of the season.
For the Bourbons, C Wiley Fobes (36-2.5) had 2 hits, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. Fobes has been in the Liberty League since the beginning when he was Boston's back up catcher in 1876. He had 2 stolen bases in his career before today when he doubled his lifetime total with 2 more.
Liberty League:
Cleveland (6) at Pittsburgh (4): Ed Pedersen (25-5.1) (18-26) over Tom Adams (33-6.0) (6-8). Cleveland scored 5 times in the top of the 9th to take the lead. With the loss, the GNA Champions of 1885 and 2nd place finishers last season drop to the basement in their 1st season in the Liberty League.
New York (14) at Indianapolis (11): Jack Roberts (35-6.1) (13-25) over Sal DeVaux (32-3.5) (15-14). New York had 22 hits. CF Bert Gellis (26-5.5) had 4 of them with a triple, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. 1B John Hilliard (27-7.2) hit his League-leading 17th home run of the year, one shy of the all-time record.
Grand National Association:
Brooklyn (3) at Kansas City (5): Al McClaughry (23-5.6) (30-15) over William David (24-3.6) (9-9). McClaughry allowed 7 hits, 4 walks and struck out 3. David allowed 5 hits, 4 walks and struck out 4.
Providence (1) at Milwaukee (4): Freddy Wood (31-6.3) (22-19) over Tom Ashton (23-5.2) (4-5). Wood allowed 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. Ashton allowed 4 hits, 4 walks and struck out 6. RF Ed Capps (24-6.1) hit his league-leading 10th home run of the season.
Baltimore (3) at St. Louis (4) in 11 innings: Ted Ryther (33-4.3) (24-17) over Ed Price (23-5.7) (2-4) in relief of Frank McSherry (32-4.1). Both teams scored in the 10th inning. C Cy Morton (27-4.6) won the game with a 2-out single. McSherry had to leave after 4 innings with a swollen knee that they expect to take about a week to heal.
Omaha (4) at Chicago (8): Pete Rinehart (28-6.2) (14-18) over Tom Lee (29-6.0) (17-15). Rinehart allowed 9 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2. Lee allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2, but Omaha made 6 errors and 2 of the hits left the park. C George Sandefur (31-5.8) had 2 hits with his 2nd home run of the year and 5 RBIs. Rookie 3B Stub Nelson (25-5.6) also hit a home run.
