We are in Kentucky today to begin a 3 game series with manager Elmer Higgins (41-6.4) and his Bourbons. We are 9-3 against them on the season so far and beat them in 2 games in Detroit a couple of weeks ago the last time we met. They are 3rd in the League in scoring with 6.3 runs per game (Detroit is #6 with 6.1). They are 4th in runs allowed with 6.5 per game (Detroit is #1 with 4.7). Eclipse Park is very nice to hitters, except that it is the toughest place to hit a home run to right field, though almost the easiest to hit one to left.
Detroit Wolverines (59-27 .686 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Louisville Bourbons (44-44 .500 16 GB in 4th place)
Lou Townley, Det. (25-3.4) (R 28-8 2.49 8.6-1.4-3.5 H-BB-K/9) vs. Count Childs, Lou. (31-3.1) (R 13-21 4.78 10.2-3.7-3.0).
Won - 8 to 4
13 wins in a row!
Townley allowed 10 hits, no walks and struck out 4.
Childs gave us 11 hits, 4 walks and struck out 2. At bat, he had 2 hits with a double and scored a run.
Each team made 3 errors.
LF Al Lewis (22-9.1) hit 2 doubles and a triple and scored a run. RF Ben Smith (28-6.7) had a hit and 2 walks and scored 2 runs. 1B Jocko Cole (25-6.1) had 2 hits, scored a run and had an RBI. SS Tom Nelson (21-6.6), who last game had the worst day ever, had one of the best days ever for a Wolverine today. He had 3 hits with a triple, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 4 RBIs.
For the Bourbons, 1B Pete Hinde (31-7.9) had 3 hits, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had an RBI.
Liberty League:
Cleveland (17) at Pittsburgh (6): Ed Pedersen (25-5.1) (17-26) over Fred Horner (26-3.8) (1-6). 1B Dave Kelly (25-6.0) had 2 hits with a triple and 2 walks and scored 4 runs. CF Jake Howard (28-4.6) had 4 hits with a double, scored 3 runs and had an RBI.
Grand National Association:
Brooklyn (5) at Kansas City (7): Lew Burnett (26-4.5) (23-20) over Al Green (24-3.8) (19-22). Green had to leave after 6 innings with blurred vision from getting knocked in the head sliding into a base. They think he'll be okay in a few days. Rookie CF Heinie Ashmore (23-6.0) hit a home run.
