Owner George Crane (50-6.3) of Indianapolis has fired his 2nd manager of the season, relieving Erastus Garrett (38-6.9) of his duties and hiring Bill Shell (43-6.3) to run the team. Shell was a catcher in his playing days but did not make it to B Ball until he was 35 years old. He last played in 1880, pinch-hitting in 4 games for Hartford of the National Association (A), his only A Ball experience.

Brooklyn (6) at Milwaukee (7): Freddy Wood (31-6.3) (14-13) over Ren French (26-4.9) (12-12). 1B Jim Walker (30-7.6) hit a bases-loaded home run, his 2nd homer of the year. RF Ted Steeves (25-4.2) went hitless, ending his streak at 24 games.
Omaha (10) at Chicago (4): Tom Lee (29-6.0) (12-7) over Pete Rinehart (28-6.2) (7-11). Lee allowed 10 hits, 4 walks and struck out 6. C Charlie LeFevre (33-5.0) hit 2 doubles and a triple, scored 2 runs and had 5 RBIs.
