OOTP can't, of course, create an AI that is as flexible as a human being. (If it could, Markus would be bringing in a fortune from military and CIA contracts.) It would, however, be nice if one had more options for late inning replacements. I have great-field, no-hit defenders whom I'd like to put to help defend a narrow lead. And I have so-so players whom I'd be happy to put in near the end of a blow-out (for or against me) to give them some practice and spare my starters the risk of injury. The current defensive replacement options cover only a small portion of that territory.
