The Providence Grays did not improve any under Pat Ross (30-5.4), so owner Mike Haak (59-6.7) has shipped him off to A Ball and handed the reins of the team to P Bill Henson (30-6.5). Henson's horrible pitching is a large reason the team is not playing well, but most observers agree that if Haak refuses to pay the salary of a full-time manager, then Henson is probably the best choice for the job among the players.

We got some bad news on SS Al Shaffer (26-5.6). It appears he is not mending as quickly as anticipated and it will be at least another month before he will be able to play.

Indianapolis Hoosiers (19-32 .373 13.5 GB in 8th (last) place in the Liberty League) at
Detroit Wolverines (32-18 .640 1st place)

Jimmy Euler, Ind. (26-5.5) (R 2-4 3.51 10.7-3.8-3.0 H-BB-K/9) vs. Al Rice, Det. (22-7.6) (R 1-0 1.00 6.0-1.0-2.0)

Won - 4 to 3

Rice allowed 9 hits, no walks and struck out 4. At bat, he had a hit and scored a run.

Euler gave us 10 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2. We have had exactly 10 hits as a team for 5 straight games.

We made 2 errors and Indianapolis made 5.

CF Al Lewis (21-9.1) hit a triple and scored a run. So far, he is looking worse in center than I thought. We'll give him a little longer to get himself settled out there, but not much longer. 2B Jocko Cole (25-6.1) had 2 hits with a double, stole 2 bases, scored a run and had an RBI. C Evan Eckberg (31-3.5) hit a double. 1B Tom Duncan (22-6.6) had 2 hits with a triple, but messed up his ankle and is going to be out for the better part of 2 months. I sent for 1B George House (28-4.3) to come here from Syracuse to sit on our bench. RF Joe Kraus (30-7.9) had 2 hits with an RBI and maybe is finally getting into shape after the injury.

Liberty League:
Louisville (2) at Cleveland (5): Henry Rawls (33-4.3) (10-10) over Count Childs (31-3.1) (9-10). Rawls allowed 7 hits, no walks and struck out no one. Pedersen allowed 7 hits, no walks and struck out 3. Cleveland made 6 errors to 1 for Louisville.

Boston (16) at New York (4): William Little (26-6.0) (9-11) over Tom McDowell (23-8.0) (5-4). Little allowed 8 hits, 4 walks and struck out 5. 2B Mike Stables (31-7.1) had 4 hits, stole 2 bases, scored 3 runs and had 4 RBIs. 1B Ed Tummino (25-5.8) hit his 3rd home run of the season.

Pittsburgh (5) at Cincinnati (6): Charlie Branham (27-4.2) (15-9) over Whitey Mathews (24-4.1) (9-8). With the game tied at 5 in the bottom of the 9th, rookie CF Ed Robling (24-7.3) led off with his 3rd double of the day and manager/LF Silver Borresen (33-6.9) doubled to win the game. Branham allowed 7 hits, 3 walks and struck out 1. The Reds have now won 6 in a row.

Grand National Association:
Baltimore (2) at Providence (7): Ed Wison (26-7.3) (8-11) over Pop Yurkovich (35-5.6) (10-13). Wison allowed 3 hits, 3 walks and struck out 3. RF Sy Cullum (24-5.9) had 4 hits with a triple, stole a base, scored 3 runs and had an RBI. 1B Al Young (23-4.8) had 2 hits, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 4 RBIs. For the Orioles, C Fred Clapp (28-4.0) hit his 2nd home run of the season.

Brooklyn (2) at Omaha (10): Tom Lee (29-6.0) (10-6) over Ren French (26-4.9) (12-9). Lee allowed 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3.

St. Louis (8) at Milwaukee (3): Ted Ryther (33-4.3) (13-11) over Freddy Wood (31-6.3) (11-13). Ryther allowed 10 hits, 4 walks and struck out 3. Rookie 3B Kid Powell (24-7.5) had 4 hits, stole 2 bases, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. Rookie LF Pat Matthews (24-5.1) had a hit for the 30th straight game. It is the longest streak ever in the GNA and only 4 short of the all-time record. The Terriers have won 5 in a row.

Kansas City (6) at Chicago (14): Pete Rinehart (28-6.2) (7-8) over Lew Burnett (26-4.5) (13-12). CF Tommy Casale (27-3.7) had 2 hits with a triple, scored a run and had 4 RBIs. RF Candy Simpson (28-6.8) hit his 3rd home run of the season.
