It's time to see what our 1st pick from the last B Leagues draft can do. Al Rice (22-7.6) has arrived from Syracuse where he had a 11-4 record with a 2.31 ERA. He cannot be any worse than Ed Bush (27-5.3) has been of late. For those who have forgotten, Rice won the pitching Triple Crown in the Southern League (B) last year. This year he is leading the International League (A) in ERA and strikeouts and is 2nd in fewest walks per 9 innings. We'll let him spend the day today getting acclimated to his new surroundings and tomorrow we will throw him into the fire.

P Ed Seelow (27-4.5) and his 6.43 ERA were sent to Syracuse in exchange.

Louisville Bourbons (25-21 .543 3.5 GB in 3rd place in the Liberty League) at
Detroit Wolverines (29-18 .617 1st place)

William McLeod, Lou. (28-5.6) (R 12-7 4.12 9.2-3.9-3.3 H-BB-K/9) vs. Lou Townley, Det. (25-3.4) (R 14-5 2.88 9.4-1.4-3.4)

Last time these 2 met, Townley gave up 17 hits.

Won - 6 to 5

With the game tied at 5 apiece, 3B Sam Boullion (27-4.8) led off the bottom of the 9th with a walk. With 1-out LF Ben Smith (28-6.7) doubled and Boullion came home, but found the ball waiting on him there for the 2nd out. However, Smith went to 3rd on the throw, from where he scored on a passed ball to win the game.

Townley allowed 8 hits (all singles), 2 walks and struck out 5.

McLeod gave us 10 hits, 4 walks and struck out 3. At bat, he had a hit.

We made 2 errors and Louisville made 3.

2B Jocko Cole (25-6.1) had 4 hits with a double, stole a base, scored a run and had an RBI. He is hitting over .400 for June. SS Tom Nelson (20-6.6) continued his amazing run with a double and a triple, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. He is now hitting .421 for the 1st 19 games of his career.

For the Bourbons, 1B Pete Hinde (31-7.9) had 3 hits, stole a base and scored 2 runs. LF Jack Wallace (34-7.5) had 3 hits, stole 2 bases, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs.

Liberty League:

Pittsburgh (12) at New York (8): Tom Adams (32-6.0) (3-5) over Jack Roberts (35-6.1) (4-15). 1B Tom Coponen (31-7.0) had 2 hits with his 4th home run of the year and had 4 RBIs.

Indianapolis (5) at Cleveland (7): Ed Pedersen (25-5.1) (8-13) over Sal DeVaux (32-3.5) (5-8). For the Hoosiers, last year's Rookie of the Year Ed Slonim (24-8.5) hurt his back and will miss a couple of weeks. He has only played 24 games this season due to a multitude of injuries.

Boston (5) at Cincinnati (25): John Stevens (30-8.2) (11-9) over Charlie Morlock (37-6.7) (8-11). Morlock only made it through 4 innings, allowing 13 runs. Will he be able to hang on until he gets 7 more wins to make it to 300? Manager/LF Silver Borresen (33-6.9) had 5 hits with a triple, scored 5 runs and had 2 RBIs. RF Fleet Wilcox (30-4.9) had 3 hits with 2 home runs and 2 walks, scored 5 runs and had 4 RBIs. He now leads the Liberty League all alone with 12 home runs. 1B Willie Burton (32-8.5) had 4 hits with a triple and his 5th home run of the year, drew a walk, scored 5 runs and had 6 RBIs. Rookie 2B Ed Kent (23-3.6) had 4 hits with a double, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. Rookie SS Tub Saslow (22-5.8) had 4 hits with a triple, scored 2 runs and had 4 RBIs.

Grand National Association:
Baltimore (7) at Omaha (6): Tom Wilmarth (27-5.4) (13-11) over Lee Sprague (27-3.4) (11-13). Sprague only allowed 9 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2 but Omaha made 9 errors.

Milwaukee (8) at Chicago (5): Zachary Buchanan (26-4.0) (13-10) over Pete Rinehart (28-6.2) (5-8). Buchanan allowed 5 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. For the Colts, rookie 3B Stub Nelson (25-7.1) hurt his ankle and will miss about 3 weeks.
