Owner Bob Baugh (55-7.5) of the St. Louis Terriers fired manager William Morey (45-7.5). He hired John Wells (43-5.6), who had just been fired from Providence two weeks ago, to run the team. His claim to fame as a manager is the Northwestern League (A) championship of 1884 with Grand Rapids.
