Owner Bob Baugh (55-7.5) of the St. Louis Terriers fired manager William Morey (45-7.5). He hired John Wells (43-5.6), who had just been fired from Providence two weeks ago, to run the team. His claim to fame as a manager is the Northwestern League (A) championship of 1884 with Grand Rapids.

Grand National Association:

Chicago (3) at Brooklyn (5): William David (24-3.6) (10-9) over Pete Rinehart (28-6.2) (4-5). David allowed 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 7.
