We begin a 3 games series in Cincinnati against manager/LF Silver Borresen (33-6.9) and his Reds today. We beat them 2 of 3 in Detroit last week. They are currently 6th in runs scored with 5.8 per game (Detroit, since Sam Cowan (31-5.1) got hurt has dropped to 7th with 5.7). They are 6th in runs allowed with 6.5 per game (After giving up 18 runs in our last outing, Detroit has fallen to 4th with 6.1). Their League Park is very nice to hitters and is the easiest place to hit one out to left field and the 2nd easiest place to hit it out to right (though no where even close to as easy as in Detroit).

P's Dave Frazier (27-5.7) and Tom Graves (22-6.2) have arrived from Syracuse. We'll see if they can give up less than 18 runs when the need arises. Also arriving is SS Dave Krampe (28-5.5) to take the spot of the injured SS Tom Nelson (20-6.6).

Detroit Wolverines (5-4 .556 1.5 GB in 2nd place in the Liberty League) at
Cincinnati Reds (3-3 .500 2 GB tied for 3rd place)

SS Al Shaffer (26-5.6) is ready to play, so he'll be back in the lineup. To get Willie Kirby's (25-2.1) bat in the lineup, we are trying Tom Duncan (22-6.6) out at first base.

Ed Bush, Det. (26-5.3) (R 3-2 2.14 6.9-2.8-2.6 H-BB-K/9) vs. John Stevens, Cin. (30-8.2) (R 2-1 4.32 10.1-2.2-2.9)

Won - 5 to 2

Bush allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5.

Stevens gave us 9 hits, no walks and struck out 3.

We did not make an error for the first time this season and Cincinnati made 2.

LF Ben Smith (27-6.7) hit a triple and scored a run. SS Al Shaffer (26-5.6) had 2 hits, scored a run and had an RBI. C Jimmy Babcock (30-6.9) had 2 hits and scored a run.

For the Reds, rookie 3B Tub Saslow (21-5.8) had 3 hits with a triple and an RBI.

Liberty League:
New York (7) at Cleveland (4): Miah Turner (26-5.3) (3-1) over Ed Pedersen (25-5.1) (2-4).

Pittsburgh (10) at Indianapolis (1): Tom Lilly (27-6.4) (2-2) over Dad Marshall (28-4.4) (2-2). Lilly allowed 6 hits, no walks and struck out 4. SS Dan White (27-5.1) had 4 hits with a double and 2 RBIs.

Louisville (7) at Boston (8): Charlie Morlock (37-6.7) (2-2) over William McLeod (27-5.6) (2-2). 3B Ed Tummino (25-5.8) knocked in the winning run with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th. Rookie LF Highball Baxter (21-5.7) hit a home run. Manager/1B Pete Bucolo (39-4.1) had 4 hits with a triple, stole 2 bases and scored 2 runs. He has scored 14 runs in 8 games. 3B Bill Gordon (30-3.7) ruptured a tendon in his knee and is out for the season. He had led the League in OBP the last 2 seasons.

Grand National Association:

Kansas City (9) at Chicago (8) in 10 innings: Lew Burnett (26-4.5) (5-2) over Pony Stanley (23-6.2) (4-5). CF Danny Bolus (35-5.4) hit a home run. C Gene Stone (30-5.4) had 3 hits with a triple and a home run, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. For the Colts, 1B Joe Vaughan (32-5.2), the Liberty League leader in home runs last year with Cincinnati, injured his hip and is expected to take about 3 months to heal.
