My point is that every time the Yankees acquire a new player, whether through a trade or free agent signing, people start to complain about them spending more money, etc. In reality, there are a number of other teams....the Red Sox at the forefront.....that have spent more money on players not from their system. The Yankees have spent more overall, but much of it is used to try and keep a number of players that came up through the system. I think that is good for the game. The Red Sox have built a very good team this year, that has a chance to win.....however, it needs to be noted the way it has been built is with the same means that the Yankees always take abuse for. All the Red Sox fans are getting excited because their team is actually using their resources to make the team better. That is something the Yankees always do, and what other teams should be doing. It should be the rule, and not the exception......especially not an exception to be degraded for.
When it all comes done to using the resources well to make the team better as you said, people would actually hate the Yankees more.

If EVERYONE knows how to spend their money the best way, the Yankess will ALWAYS win since they spend the most. Don't try to fake the "keeping players from their own system" thing. Most team can't find a way to afford too many home-raised superstars at the same time. If ARod or Griffey came up with the Yankees, would they have left? Or guys like McGwire or so would be traded away? You truly believe the A's would got money to keep all their stud pitchers from going to the Yankees once they hit free agency?

Even the "own system" stuff is a lie. Soriano was signed as a finished product out of Japan. Yankees got him because they outbid everyone else. And think any other team would have enough money to keep Henson from playing football?

With the money, Yankees could afford maybe twice as much actions in the filed than some other teams. More actions, more chances. They got their busts on guys like the nearly 5mil Andy Morales. And of course there will be good outcomes like Soriano. Just tell me how many teams got the 5 million to sign Andy Morales as their "home grown talent".
