I'll dispense with the usual "Make sure you are
really in charge of a team, etc., etc," Instead, since you mention historical play, I will point a few more advanced things out to you.
First, and most obvious, make sure Enable Trading is checked in Game Settings, League Settings, Rules, Trading Rules.
Second, and not so obvious, please realize that there are a number of ways to play historically in this game. You can start a league with an historical season, then go fictional from that point. Or, you can start a
strictly historical game, sort of a reenactment, so to speak. That means no deviations from history, including trades that did not happen in real life.
Look at the first screen print below. This is from my historical/fictional league (MLB history, fictional players). Now compare that to the second screen print, which is from an historical reenactment.
See the difference? The reenactment game has an extra section called Historical Transactions/Lineups. If you have the Use Real Historical Transactions box checked, that's going to shut off the draft, finances,
and trades. You may have clicked that box when you set up the game (third screen print).
