Red Sox had a pretty good week getting themselves back over 500 and pulling within 10 1/2 of the Blue Jays. There is still a long way to go and with the improved pitching I can't call the Sox out of it yet. Toronto holds a 4 game lead on 2nd place Detroit as both teams are currently riding losing streaks. In the AL West, Seattle has a half game lead on the Angels. The Red Sox going into Anaheim and sweeping the Angels made Mariners fans very happy. Over in the NL East, the Mets continue to dominate as they have now opened up a 15 1/2 game lead on the Expos. In the NL West, the Astros hold a 2 1/2 game lead on the Giants.
Other notes: Mike Scott had the most dominating start of the week. In his start against the Phillies he pitched 8 shutout innings allowing 3 hits and striking out 16. This win improved his record to 16-2 this year.
Players of the week
AL Ken Phelps 700 4 6
NL Steve Sax 667 0 1 5 runs scored (hitting 394 for the year)
