Each team scored a run in the first and then the scoring stopped until the 9th inning. Boston scored in the top of the 9th, but LF Ben Smith (27-6.7) hit a 2-run triple in the bottom half to win the game.
Bush allowed 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4.
Peters gave us 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 6.
We made 4 errors and Boston made 2. It is the 4th straight game we have made more errors than the other guys.
CF Willie Kirby (24-2.1) had 2 hits, stole a base and scored 2 runs. CF Fred Bianco (27-6.9) had 2 hits, stole a base and had an RBI. He pulled a muscle and will likely miss the rest of the season.
For Boston, 2B Mike Stables (30-7.1) had 2 hits, stole a base and knocked in both of their runs.
Liberty League:
Rochester (5) at Cleveland (3): Ed Hodges (26-3.2) (21-20) over Ed Pedersen (24-5.1) (21-25). Hodges allowed 11 hits, 2 walks and struck out 7. At bat, he had a hit and scored a run. Pedersen allowed 12 hits, 1 walk and struck out 4. At bat, he had 2 hits with a double. He is 4-11 in his last 15 starts, though his ERA has dropped almost half a run. 1B Pete Hinde (31-7.9) had 4 hits, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs.
New York (5) at Philadelphia (6): Wes Wright (32-5.7) (2-0) over John Allen (28-6.4) (4-3). The Keystones scored twice in the bottom of the 9th to win. A 2-out RBI double by SS Smith Yocum (29-5.5) ended the game. He ad 2 hits and a walk and scored a run. Wright allowed 8 hits, 3 walks and struck out 6. At bat, he had a hit.
Indianapolis (1) at Cincinnati (2): John Stevens (29-8.2) (29-15) over Dad Marshall (27-4.4) (20-23). Stevens allowed 5 hits, 5 walks and struck out 8. At bat, he had a hit. He has won 5 starts in a row. Marshall allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2. At bat, he had 2 hits. He has lost 5 in a row. LF Fleet Wilcox (29-4.9) had 2 hits with his 4th home run of the season. The Reds have won 7 in a row. For Indianapolis, former GNA MVP, LF Otis York (30-6.3), pulled a muscle in his rib cage and will miss about 3 weeks.
Grand National Association:
Providence (3) at Pittsburgh (2): Tom Blomberg (28-4.7) (25-21) over Whitey Mathews (23-4.1) (30-22). Blomberg allowed 8 hits, 3 walks and struck out 2. He has won 5 of his last 6. Mathews allowed 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5. RF John Froom (38-6.2) had 3 hits with 2 doubles, but no runs or RBIs.
Milwaukee (2) at Baltimore (6): Pop Yurkovich (34-5.6) (18-24) over Zachary Buchanan (25-4.0) (22-29). Yurkovich allowed 4 hits, 3 walks and struck out 6. At bat, he had 3 hits, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. CF Bill Fogle (27-5.3) had 2 hits, stole 2 bases, scored a run and had an RBI.
Brooklyn (15) at Omaha (9): Ren French (25-4.9) (23-20) over Lee Sprague (26-3.5) (20-17). Sprague did not allow an earned run; Omaha made 9 errors. SS Charlie Smith (28-5.6), an ex-Mutual, had 4 hits with a double, scored a run and had 5 RBIs. Brooklyn retakes 1st place.
Kansas City (3) at Chicago (2) in 10 innings: Lew Burnett (25-4.5) (14-23) over Pony Stanley (23-6.2) (30-24). In 9 innings, Burnett allowed 6 hits, 1 walk and struck out 5. At bat, he had a hit and an RBI. In 10 innings, Stanley allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 7.
