New York Gothams (23-22 .511 10 GB in 3rd place in the Liberty League) at
Detroit Wolverines (35-14 .714 1st place)

Jack Roberts, N.Y. (34-6.1) (R 12-8 2.24 7.3-2.8-4.3 H-BB-K/9) vs. Ed Bush, Det. (26-5.3) (R 15-2 1.98 5.5-2.8-5.7)

Won - 4 to 3

When you make as many errors as you make hits, you probably should not win the game. Having your opponent make more errors than they get hits helps a lot.

With the game tied a 3 in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs, CF Willie Kirby (24-2.1) hit a double and then SS Sam Swanger (33-4.8) singled him home to win the game. It is the 5th time in the last 11 games, we have won in our final at bat.

Bush allowed 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 8. At bat, he drew a walk, stole his 2nd base of the year and scored a run. Both thefts have been on the back end of double steals; he is not very fast, though he CAN out-run my pet 3-legged box turtle, but just barely.

Roberts gave us 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2.

We made 6 errors and New York made 5.

CF Willie Kirby had 2 hits with a double, scored a run and had an RBI. He has 6 hits in the 3 games he has played since being called up from Syracuse. He has scored 4 times and had 6 RBIs. SS Sam Swanger had 2 hits, stole a base, scored a run and had an RBI.

Liberty League:
Boston (7) at Cleveland (6): Joe Peters (30-4.9) (10-2) over Ed Pedersen (24-5.1) (11-10). Boston scored 3 times in the top of the 9th to take the lead. In 8 innings, Peters allowed 8 hits, 3 walks and struck out 5. Freddy Wood (30-3.6) pitched the bottom of the 9th and gave up a hit and got a strikeout. CF Pat Stafford (25-5.4) had 2 hits, stole 2 bases and scored 3 runs. Manager/1B Pete Bucolo (38-4.1) had 3 hits with a double, scored a run and had an RBI.

Rochester (2) at Philadelphia (5): Ted Ryther (32-4.3) (8-13) over Bill Henson (29-6.5) (7-14). Ryther allowed 6 hits, 4 walks and struck out 6. Henson allowed 12 hits, 4 walks and struck out 6. At bat, he had a hit. Rookie LF Biff Place (25-5.4) had 3 hits and a walk, scored a run and had 2 RBIs.

Indianapolis (6) at Cincinnati (7) in 10 innings: John Stevens (29-8.2) (13-9) over Levi Giddens (34-4.8) (2-13). In 10 innings, Stevens allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 8. Giddens allowed 10 hits, 3 walks and struck out 4. In the bottom of the 10th, LF Fleet Wilcox (29-4.9) led off with a double and then after 2 outs were made, 3B Adam Trombley (32-6.8) singled him home. Wilcox had 2 hits and a walk and scored 2 runs. For the Hoosiers, 1B Otis York (30-6.3) tore a thigh muscle and will miss at least 5 weeks.

Grand National Association:
Baltimore (2) at Pittsburgh (10): Whitey Mathews (23-4.1) (15-13) over Tom Wilmarth (26-5.4) (8-19). Mathews allowed 7 hits, 4 walks and struck out 4. At bat, he had a hit and scored a run. Wilmarth allowed 10 hits, 1 walk and struck out 5. Baltimore made 8 errors. LF Billy Galloway (25-5.3) had 2 hits, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. 3B Charlie Hart (27-2.9) tore a thigh muscle and will miss at least 6 weeks. Maybe he has bigger thigh muscles than Otis York of Indianapolis and they take longer to heal. For Baltimore, SS Jake Steitz (27-4.7) tore something in his knee and will miss about a month.

Omaha (4) at Chicago (3): Tom Lee (28-6.0) (10-11) over Pete Rinehart (27-6.2) (17-9). Down 3 to 0, Omaha scored 4 times in the 8th. Lee allowed 10 hits, 3 walks and struck out 8. He has won 5 in a row. Rinehart allowed 7 hits, 3 walks and struck out 3. LF Dave Cunningham (31-5.4) had 2 hits, scored a run and had an RBI. Chicago's winning streak is over after 13 games. For the Colts, rookie CF Jimmy Cast (21-3.6) pulled a muscle in his thigh and will miss 2 weeks.
