Major Trade Includes Báez and Frank

Its not everyday that a team leading their division by 7 games trades away 3 players who are key to their offense, including 2 every-day, Glove Wizard Award winning, players, but that is just what the Cavaliers did. In doing so the Cavaliers made a huge impact on their budget, but other than that its left to be seen...

Major Trade Includes Báez and Frank: A star-studded deal has been made! The Norfolk Cavaliers were pleased to announce a trade with the Sixteens today that will send 26-year-old catcher Alejandro Díaz, 25-year-old third baseman Edgar Báez, 26-year-old third baseman Mario Gómez, 28-year-old minor league left fielder Yoelbi Mosca and a 15th round draft pick to Georgetown in exchange for 25-year-old shortstop Bryant Frank, 23-year-old minor league catcher Henry Rojas, 19-year-old minor league shortstop Miguel Maldonado and 20-year-old minor league starting pitcher Ángel Násquez. "It's always nice to complete a deal like this." the Cavaliers general manager was quoted as saying. "We are very happy with the way this deal came together."

So far this year Báez is hitting .248 with 4 home runs.

Thus far in 2026 Frank is hitting .283 with 4 home runs, 16 RBIs, 27 runs scored and has compiled a .344 OBP.

Going to Georgetown:
Alejandro Diaz ($7,930,000) - .204-8-22 (43 G)
Edgar Baez ($6,875,000) - .248-4-13 (39 G)
Mario Gomez ($5,975,000) - .302-3-5 (16 G)
Yoelbi Mosca (AAA)
15th Round Pick in 2027

Going to Norfolk:
Bryant Frank ($4,400,000) - .283-4-16 (51 G)
Henry Rojas (AAA, #84)
Miguel Maldonado (A)
Angel Nasquez (A)

The Georgetown Sixteens are currently in last place with a 19-33 record, 10 games out. But with this trade their offense is a third different than it was yesterday. How will that translate in the long run? Its yet to be seen, but we will keep an eye on them. Mario Gomez is no listed as the starting SS batting 2nd, Alejandro Diaz the starting Catcher batting 4th and Edgar Baez is playing LF batting 7th.

The Cavaliers lineup will look a little differently as well, as Baez and Diaz leave holes in the starting lineup. Moving to starting catcher will be Henry Rojas and moving to 3B will be Bryant Frank. Robinson Lopez will be our 2B and Pedro Torres will sub for all infielders getting a lot of Ab's throughout the week. In a subsequent move to bring the current roster up to 25 players catcher Mike Baldwin was called up. Baldwin will give the Cav's 3 catchers on the active roster, this is the first time we have carried 3 catchers since our record breaking season in 2018 (Jose Renteria, John Phillips and Ed Duke).

We know are carrying four offensive rookies on the roster: Henry Rojas (C), Mike Baldwin (C), Pedro Torres (IF) and Trevor Parker (OF).

Its a different look, but I like it quite it a bit. What does this trade mean to the Cavaliers in terms of the fans and the budget? Well the fans are very disappointed with the deal that move 3 fan favorites and the Interest and dropped 10 points down to 84. But our budget changed dramatically, as our current player payroll is now 14th in the league ($100,351,000), and we have over $20M for free-agents and money for some extensions. This might allow us to extend a player like Bob Short or Armando Lopez past their arbitration seasons.

Here is what the Cav's current lineup looks like:
RF Sergio Rodriguez
CF Sergio Galvez (L)
1B Francisco Gallegos (S)
LF Bob Short (L)
3B Bryant Frank
DH Leonard Lawson (L)
SS Claudio Flores
C Henry Rojas (L)
2B Robinson Lopez

Pedro Torres will be playing every 3-4 days at every infield position and Trevor Parker the same for the outfield... I know the fans might be overly exited by this move, but I am...
