SP Joaquin Hernandez, Partially torn labrum, 3 months
Other/Roster News:
Edgardo Perdnard (AAA): 47-117 / .402-10-31, 7 2B, 3 3B / 2B rating: 2
*Edgardo Perdnard will miss hte next 3-4 months with a partially torn laburm. The dream season will be put on hold. Guess that is the chance you take with fragile players... the Perdnard watch is over, it sure was fun while it lasted.
GM Notes:
To start off the week, I activated Bob Short and put him right back into the lineup. To make room for him I sent Carlos Franco down. With Franco down I redid the depth charts, so Pedro Torres and Mario Gomez will get their share of AB's. Short will play LF, with Lawson heading back to the DH. Trevor Parker and Lawson will split DH time as well as getting some more AB's in the outfield. Trying to balance everyone's playing time, hopefully it doesn't backfire.
As Miguel Contreras struggles I am starting to get a little worried about his vesting option for 2027. $17.3M for 150IP would hurt for 2 reasons: 1) its a lot of money, 2) his skill is dwindling and it'd hurt the team... But what do I do? He is 7 wins from 250, he has been a rock for this team for a quite a few seasons... I feel like putting him in the bullpen would be some kind of slap in the face to him... am I taking this to personal? I mean this is a business right? (ok its a game, but the Cavaliers finances are my games business)... I think I will let him play out July then make my mind up then. I have to keep a close eye on those innings however... He should hit 150 around 23-25 starts based on IP/G so far this season. Its hard to watch legends fall.
Oddly enough our offense seemed to hit the ball well this past week, but our pitching wasn't there. I guess that is just how it works, however. You can't have it all all the time. Miguel Angel Gonzalez has had 2 really bad outings in May, and both of them were just regular relief appearnces. I am not sure why he is being used when there is no need for him... specially when you have 2 guys who aren't seeing that much time, but are performing when they do.
After 2 solid starts Boyd Martin has been hit hard. I am going to keep my eye on him, and if he continues to get hit, he will be sent back down and Armando Lopez (or Lazzaro Tadiotto) will get a shot at the pen... I do have some options at least. I could even reach out to the free-agent market to get another reliever. So I do have options.
It looks like we are heading into a funk. Hopefully that is just what this is and not a drop back to our baseline. I was really enjoying riding high... Plus those Senators are a tough team and the more cushion we have the better.
I dropped the ball on our #6 starter. I thought we were deeper. With Hernandez down, and Martin not being overly efficent I think it might be time to put Lopez in the rotation. Then I will have to think about my bullpen. I think Sanchez, Ha, Hanson and Moran will be able to pick up the slack of Lopez...
