I hope this is the right place to seek this advice.

I attempting to start a fictional league around 1850. I will be importing Historic players through Spritz's latest DB. My goal is to run this through the 1900 season and then Import a historic league and converting rosters and rookies over. I will worry about the mechanics when I get there.
My real question is what settings should I be tweaking to keep my game created players reserve roster/minor league/cup of coffee credible? I am not adverse to some even becoming ML players, but for the most part I want them to populate the minor or independent or international leagues.
Also, should these settings change as history progresses? And what might I do with Feeder leagues along the way?

Any advice on these settings or how I might attempt the 1901 conversion would be welcomed and appreciated.
