The fans of the Alleghenys are in a happy state of shock after the way their team has started the new season. The team picked up 18 wins from their 23 games played. This has seen them rise to the top of the NL table to lead by 4 games.

Series results
2-0 on the road to the Boston Beaneaters
4-0 on the road to the St Louis Browns
2-2 on the road to the Chicago White Stockings
3-0 at home to the New York Giants
2-0 at home to the Philadelphia Quakers
1-1 at home to the Brooklyn Grays
3-0 at home to the Boston Beaneaters
1-1 on the road to the Cincinnati Red Stockings
won first game of a road trip to the Chicago White Stockings

Even though the team had a good month on the field of play there were some set backs. The team lost Catcher Jack Clements mid month with a strained quadricep. He will be out for between 6 and 7 weeks. The team also lost Short Stop Paul Radford to a knee sprain late in the month. He will be out for 5 weeks.

After an excellent month for the team, picking a star was always going to be tricky from the long list of candidates. We have decided to go with Starting Pitcher John Clarkson. Clarkson managed to pick up 10 wins from his 12 starts while pitching 110 innings. He gave up 96 hits and 28 earned runs for an ERA of 2.29. This though didn't deter the NL Voters who decided to award him the NL pitcher of the month award

There was also a good month for Al Myers who picked up the NL Rookie of the Month award with a .319 average.
