We begin a 4 game series with manager/CF John Confair (31-6.6) and his Haymakers today. They come in on a roll, having won 5 in a row. We are 7-5 against them on the season so far. The last time we met, we split 4 games with them in Troy back at the first of August. They are 4th in the league in runs scored with 5.1 per game (Detroit is still #5 with 4.8). They are 3rd in runs allowed with 4.3 per game (Detroit is still #1 with 3.8).

We are going to go with Ed Bush as are #1 starter for the simple fact that he has more stamina than William McLeod (26-5.6) and so we may be able to avoid having Zenas Keough (24-4.5) pitch. Of course, if Bush gets blown up, we will rethink it before Boston comes to town.

We are 5-1 against Turner on the season, but he has only allowed us 21 total hits in his last 5 starts against us. And we still have no Ben Smith (26-6.7) for at least the first 3 games of this series.

When the 2nd batter of the game, SS William Nawrocki (30-5.5) hit a ball over the left field fence, I thought, "Oh! What have I done starting Bush over McLeod?"

Bush allowed 8 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2. At bat, he had 4 (!!) hits and scored 2 runs.

We had 13 hits and made 1 error. Troy made 4.

LF Joe Kraus (28-7.9) had 2 hits with a triple, scored a run and had an RBI, but sprained his knee sliding into third on the triple and will miss a week. So now my lead-off man and my clean-up hitter are both on the shelf at a very critical stage of the season, to understate it slightly. 2B Jocko Cole (24-6.1), the only reliable hitter left healthy, had 2 hits, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. RF Jackie Porter (31-6.3) had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. C Evan Eckberg (29-3.5) hit a triple and scored a run, threw out the only runner who tried to steal and did not allow a passed ball or wild pitch. CF Fred Bianco (26-6.9) hit a double and had 2 RBIs.

Liberty League:
New York (3) at Cleveland (4) in 11 innings: Willis Kornfield (32-6.0) (27-24) over Jack Roberts (33-6.1) (4-5). In 11 innings, Kornfield allowed 4 hits, 5 walks and struck out 2. Roberts allowed 5 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2. 2 errors ended the game. RF Joe Coffey (29-5.2) had a hit and a walk, stole a base, scored 2 runs, including the winning one, and had an RBI.

Rochester (5) at Washington (3): Bill McClean (40-6.0) (11-45) over Lou Townley (23-3.4) (27-30). McClean allowed 11 hits, 3 walks and struck out 2. At bat, he hit a double and scored a run. Townley allowed 8 hits, no walks and struck out 5. 2B Bill Rush (36-3.7) had 2 hits with a double and scored a run.

Boston (10) at Cincinnati (6) in 11 innings: Charlie Morlock (36-6.7) (20-12) over Tom Blomberg (27-4.7) (8-8) in relief of John Stevens (28-8.2). In 11 innings, Morlock allowed 11 hits, no walk and struck out 7. At bat, he had 2 hits and scored a run. In 9 innings, Stevens allowed 10 hits, no walks and struck out 3. At bat, he had a hit. SS John Ingling (25-4.6) had 3 hits with a triple, scored 3 runs and had an RBI.

Grand National Association:
Chicago (7) at Brooklyn (8): Al Green (22-3.8) (16-14) over Pete Rinehart (26-6.2) (24-27). Brooklyn scored twice in the bottom of the 9th to win. The first run scored on an error and the second run scored on a passed ball. Green allowed 8 hits, 4 walks and struck out 10. Rinehart allowed 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. Chicago made 7 errors. SS Bones Collins (30-4.4) had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

Kansas City (10) at Baltimore (5): Lew Burnett (24-4.5) (10-6) over Tom Wilmarth (25-5.4) (11-28). Burnett allowed 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. At bat, he had a hit and scored a run. Wilmarth has lost 5 in a row and is 2-14 in his last 16 decisions. SS Jim McCarthy (24-7.5) had 3 hits with a double and a triple and a walk, scored 3 runs and had an RBI.

Pittsburgh (7) at Omaha (6): Tom Lilly (25-6.4) (39-17) over Tom Lee (27-6.0) (22-9). Pittsburgh scored 2 times in the top of the 9th to take the lead. Lee has lost 3 in a row. RF Jim Graves (28-5.7) had 3 hits and scored a run. CF Al Steel (25-7.0) sprained his ankle and will likely need 3 weeks of rest.

Providence (5) at Milwaukee (12): Dan Burton (30-4.9) (30-36) over Sam Paul (30-5.4) (18-22). Burton allowed 12 hits, no walks and struck out 7. At bat, he drew a walk and scored twice. 2B Lou Bohus (25-5.4) had 3 hits with a triple and a walk, stole 4 bases, scored 4 runs and had 2 RBIs.
