it is not about travel money. The teams are probably losing revenue because of less games; however, instead of losing days for travel the team remains home to practice - It allows more practice time. The goal of the AHL is transitioning to solely developing players for the NHL...we continually see these changes since it first became the development league for the NHL. More and more AHL teams are owned by NHL teams or rely on money from their parent club over sales of tickets. I would expect the rest of the teams games will continue to lower as well within the next few years. The season used to be 80 games at one point and now it's 75 or 76 for most.
